What is Somatic Yoga Therapy?

Somatic Yoga Therapy is an approach that blends the principles of somatics (mind-body integration), yoga, neuroscience, applied psychophysiology, and psychology. This includes personalized assessment, goal setting, lifestyle & stress management, and practices that meet you where you are on your pain journey. You can change your pain with somatics through the release of chronically contracted muscles and retrain the posture and movement patterns that are causing your pain from the neurological level.

The yoga therapy model assesses clients from a holistic perspective—physically, emotionally, energetically, intellectually, and spiritually, rather than considering each body part or system separately. Yoga therapy complements other forms of treatment and empowers clients to reach specific goals and needs, despite limitations, to facilitate healing and optimize well-being. Watch Video

Available Classes & Services

Private & Small Group Lessons

Private and small group lessons can be tailored to fit the needs of the client, couple, or group at a location agreeable to all parties involved. Travel for the instructor is subject to an additional fee depending on distance. Couple and small group lessons are suitable for those with similar abilities and health concerns and conditions.

Workshops (YACEP/CEU’s)

A variety of workshops and subjects for yoga instructors to receive contact and non-contact certified education units (CEU’s) for Yoga Alliance credit by a Yoga Alliance Certified Education Provider (YACEP). These courses are also available to the local community to learn more about a particular subject or dive deeper into your yoga practice. Workshops can be tailored to your available time and subject need.

Somatic Yoga Therapy

Wellness Retreats

Wellness retreats half day, full day, or a weekend getaway from the daily grind that allow you to rest, reflect, and rejuvenate. Retreats usually have a program theme that offers a variety of yoga classes, discussions, and activities. The experiences you have on your retreat are meant to help you reconnect with yourself, break old thought patterns and bad habits, gain clarity, insight, and a new perspective with the momentum you need to bring about change. Retreats can be requested and tailored to your groups needs and desires.

My Story

Sarah is a certified somatic yoga therapist and founder of Waterfall Yoga Therapy.  She holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from the University of Maryland and is a registered yoga teacher with Yoga Alliance at the 500-hour level (E-RYT500) with over 3000 hours teaching experience.  A certified Pain Care Yoga Instructor, ACE Certified Personal Trainer, and Yoga Warrior trained to work with PTSD, Traumatic Brain Injury, and amputees; Sarah passionately believes that humans have the power within to heal themselves and she is honored when she gets to teach clients how to use yoga therapy to heal from the inside out.
