Mood
You have a mood? Sometimes I feel downright prickly, like, just look at me wrong and I will poke the shit out of you. Most of the time it is hormones and I’m quite certain of that due to its timely appearance, but sometimes there is no real explanation. The other day I had a few moments of pure prickly behavior. I paused for quite some time to reflect on the why. Even asked myself in quiet meditation, what is the underlying emotion that is causing this behavior. I even reached out to my therapist friend, Jeanine Long and asked her what’s wrong with me?
She said something along these lines, “Friend, if there is one thing I’ve realized from the pandemic, it is that we don’t need a reason to feel angry, resentful, bitter, annoyed, grief, or any other plethora of emotions. It just is and that’s ok.”
Yoga and mood
Sometimes the situations we face and the emotions we feel just are. Yoga is not going to prevent us from being invincible to life’s sufferings. However yoga does give us the tools and the awareness to reflect on the why to what is going on within us. Whether it be physical or emotional sufferings your body has innate wisdom. We just have to have the quiet pause of turning inward to unite the mind and body. Yoga is the introspection of the human experience.
The next time you are feeling a heavy mood, try the breath of joy or woodchopper for anger and frustration with me on Youtube (don’t forget to subscribe). Next, step away from the world in a quiet pause with a calming meditation on the #1 meditation app. Maybe practice your favorite breathing technique, some gentle slow movements, or chant and then turn inward and see what your soma (living body) is trying to tell you in this on demand course. Try an in person retreat and get away for the weekend.
