Boost Your Mood

The winter is seemingly dragging on. Warm then cold, then warm then cold. I can’t complain about the sunshine in Alabama, compared to Germany the sun shines in abundance here. But man am I yearning for the Caribbean vacation! SUNSHINE HERE I COME! I thought I’d post some tips here on how I boost my mood and increase my energy!

  • Exercise- go to the gym, watch a video online, take a walk, DO SOMETHING
  • Meditate- yes calm your mind and take some time to relax, tune into Insight Timer or Headspace or one of my meditations in the search section of this group
  • Write in your journal; kairos moments- moments where time stands still- from your day or things you are grateful for today because if you really pay attention you’ll find a lot to be grateful for
  • Go out into nature, take a slow walk without an agenda, or sit in stillness and listen
  • If the sun is shining, but it’s cold or rainy or windy out, open the blinds and lie in the sunshine and warmth streaming in
  • Put on your favorite essential oil or diffuse in your room (lavender is calming, peppermint is uplifting- more on essential oils in later posts)
  • Try doing a breath practice called breath of joy – also on my YouTube channel; hey GO SUBSCRIBE )
  • Get off social media (Yeah I said it) Take a break from hearing about people and their political opinions, how “perfect” their life is, and yes… yoga class times
  • Nourish your body with something healthy to eat, avoid alcohol and coffee to lift you up
  • Listen to your favorite music (and not the sad sappy crap) and sing and dance like nobody is watching
  • Get out and laugh with your favorite friend and maybe squeeze in a hug too
  • Clean out a drawer or closet (getting rid of shit makes me feel amazingly lighter)
  • Get a good night sleep or take a nap
  • Pet your pet (if you don’t have one, volunteer at an animal shelter)
  • Volunteer or help a friend or stranger and do a kindness (kind acts make your mood instantly better)
  • SMILE (force it if you have to)
  • Draw, color, paint, or any other expression of your creativity to uplift your mood
  • If your mood is lasting a while, reach out to a therapist or give me a call (I do virtual sessions now)
